How should a Tri Suit Fit

12 posts in this topic

Hi All

Long time stalker and rare participant and newby asking for advice

I have tried on a new tri suit with my local club and not sure which size to get. One size fits very snuggly and very tight on the shoulders and bust, i will have to lower the zip in the run to be comfortable The next size up fits well but not super tight like the first one. If i pull at the stomach of the larger size it has a little room but not much.

Was wondering can it be too tight? Will the shoulders/chest being so very tight be a hinderence. Oh and the brand is cannibal.

If i got the smaller size i couldnt put on a kg, if i got the larger size i couldnt afford to loose to much weight.

Would appreciate some help here.

Thanks

I have tri gear too big, about right and a touch too small. I can get away with the smaller stuff, especially in a short race. I actually don't mind the slightly slacker fit of the correctly fitting suits. The stuff that's too big though feels awful now (I've lost a bit of weight). Personally, I like the middle ground. I've also found them loosen up a bit with a few wears. My suit that was M and is my favourite is now a little looser than when I got it.

So really, I'm no help at all! And OJ did a great job on our clubs suits - the design is shmick!

Oh great that was a big help Gougy.

Pretty funny I co-ordinate the suits but not sure how one fits on me.

Hope your daughter had fun at the last club race.

It will stretch a bit after a couple of wears as the lycra softens up. I'd go for the smaller of the two PROVIDED that it is not cutting downwards on your shoulders, as the stretch is pretty much all horizontal and there won't be much vertical give.

Also, are you more likely to lose or put on weight??

The stretch is both across and downward.

I hope to loose a little more weight but really only a couple of kg ( i am a size 8-10 now)

Yes, too tight and it impacts your breathing - If it feels like you're wearing nothing, then it's a good fit.

I assume you're a chick, so get one that zips up the back (apparently a pro femme tip, not my preference at all!).

Yeah I am a chick but I like the zip in the front.

I went and tried them both on again and i agree with you Muts it did impact my breathing and i need all the breathing i can get. Also the larger one feels like i am not wearing it. so have choosen the larger size

Thanks all

I was just thinking you should go the smaller one and call it incentive!!

She loved the race and will do the rest of them this season. I've told her she can have a tri suit next season if she keeps it up. I liked the extended run this time, and it was the first time she ran the whole way too.

I'd probably aim for a little bigger in trisuits to allow for swelling and bloating when you race

Thanks Simone, I knew I didn't have a fat gut, it's just race swelling that makes it look that way.
